Blue Floral

Or what I like to call it- white and blue porcelain print. A new pattern that has been seen on clothes lately and the one I like very much. It is because of the beautiful shade of blue and vivid blue is still my favourite. When I saw this dress in H&M I had to pick it up. And because of the change in weather I have finally been able to wear it. Its beautiful cut compliments my waist and while I don’t feel comfortable in wearing short dresses I find its length still appropriate. The only flaw of the dress is that it is a tad tight around chest area, even for me :) I styled it with orange accessories as a nice contrast to the blue. I kept jewellery simple and black. In the end I was happy to achieve a nice summery look. 

I kept my hair out of my face and made a crown braid (I actually made two braids starting from the nape of my head and unite them on top, one over the other). My hair has grown so much since previous year and I can finally do hairstyles for long hair. I am getting more familiar with making braids and I cannot wait to show you more.

1 Fruit = 3 Recipes | Desserts


If you have been following me on Snapchat (majasmuffin) you have already seen the recipes I am sharing with you today. I usually use bananas for a smoothie and the same amount of fruit can be put in desserts. Surely, smoothie is healthier and is good for breakfast (next food post idea maybe?) but if you know me, I am a fan of desserts, preferably fresh and home baked goods. That is why I am sharing these three simple and quick recipes with you.

Banana cookies

You’ll need:
1-2 mashed bananas, 2 eggs, 2 cups all-purpose flour, ½ cup shortening (I used butter), 1 cup white sugar, 2 teaspoons baking powder, ½ teaspoon salt

1. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
2. Cream shortening. Add sugar, eggs and banana and mix well.
3. In another bowl mix flour, baking powder and salt. Add to creamy mixture and mix well.
4. Place one tablespoon full of dough on a baking sheet. Leave 2 inches (5 cm) between each cookie.
5. Bake for 10-12 minutes.

Banana bread

Ingredients:
2 mashed bananas, 2 eggs, 2 cups all-purpose flour, 1 cup sour cream, ¼ cup margarine, 1 1/3 cup white sugar, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, 1 teaspoon baking powder, ¼ teaspoon salt

1. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
2. Combine bananas and sour cream.
3. In another bowl mix together margarine and sugar until smooth. Add in one egg at a time and stir well. Add vanilla extract and banana mixture.
4. Combine flour, baking powder and salt. Add it into the banana mixture.
5. Pour the batter into the pan evenly. Bake for 50 minutes.

Banana muffins

Ingredients:
3 mashed bananas, 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour, ¾ cup white sugar, 1 egg, 1/3 cup butter, 1 teaspoon baking powder, ½ teaspoon salt

1. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
2. Mix together flour, baking powder and salt.
3. In another bowl mix together bananas, egg, sugar and butter.
4. Combine both mixtures and stir well.
5. Pour the batter into the muffin pan. Bake large muffins for 25 minutes and small ones for 10-15 minutes.

Beauty Bits: Avon


Avon Glow Bronzing Pearls
After I got Avon Face Pearls (see a post about those here) I was anxious to try Avon Pink Bronze when I received it. Pearls inside are the same size as Face Pearls- they’re tiny but sturdy. I use them with my contour angled brush, swirl in the pearls and check if any got stuck in my brush (does that happen to anyone else?). The last photo does it no justice but it gives a nice sun kissed look and even though I was worried at first how peachy toned bronzer could make me more orange than bronzed, I realized it wasn’t really an issue. 

Avon Dual-ended Kohl Eyeliner
Nothing is more practical than more-than-one product. If I got to choose which two colours could I put on each side it would be these two: beige/nude for everyday look and black for an evening look. While I find it difficult to apply the first one- it takes several applications for the colour to stick, I have no trouble with black one.

DIY Distressed Jeans

Hello everyone! I am sure you’ve noticed the new blog look which I am still working on and editing it. HTML code is different with every new blog template and I am trying to be patient when looking for every detail I want to change. By the end of this week I am expecting to be done with it and I hope you will find it easier to manage.

For this blog post I have dug into a new area- DIY. I haven’t done any home fashion project where I transformed old clothing into a new, wearable one. I had these jeans for a few years and for some reason I had difficult time parting from it. Instead I decided to transform them and what better trend was than boyfriend, distressed jeans. It allowed me to change them easily where I didn’t need to worry about precision.

If you decide to do something similar, here is what you will need:
sandpaper, 
scissors or Stanley knife (scissors were okay in my case because of thin jeans material) and 
thin wooden board. 

I started off with cutting the jeans at the knee area twice and once below knee on the other side. Once I was satisfied with the length of the cut, I took sandpaper and grind the cut to achieve more distressed look. You don’t have to stop here. You can add more cuts or even rip some parts for bigger effect. I did a few holes under the pocket on one side and finished there. I stayed clear of the back side of jeans but that is not a rule you have to follow. I just didn’t want to risk a hole or a cut where my panties might show (hehe).
For a final touch I rolled jeans up and sew it together. You don’t have to do this if jeans fit perfectly but mine were always too big for me.

Addicted to Black

Today has been highly anticipated because last week has been raining constantly and now I can finally take new outfit photos. It has been a busy week and I have a test on Wednesday but I needed to upload a new post today. I wore a three-quarter sleeve top I haven’t yet managed to show it to you. I find it perfect with writing on- I don’t need to fuss about styling too many pieces around it because it is great on its own. I added a choker necklace that is hand-made and was a gift from a friend when I was abroad on an exchange school program. This time I decided to stick to darker tones and wore grey handbag from Primark with (still) my favourite grey sneakers. Happy Monday! xx Maja

Nude lipsticks

Lipsticks with natural, earthy tones are simple to wear. They have always been easy and quick to reach for. When wearing one, you don’t have to worry if it looks good on you because it does. They are mostly great to wear on everyday basis and risk it wearing it at work, even if it’s not allowed to wear any makeup. Nude tone lipstick could just get away with anything. Just as a little black dress is a classic piece in fashion world that we cannot bypass, nude lipstick is an important classic among makeup.

Every colour has many various shades and nude is no exception. From lightest to darkest, the latter is more suited to me. The oldest one I own is from essence called ‘Nude love’ and is no less loved than the rest. This one is the most subtle and cannot really be seen wearing which I like on days when I don’t want to draw attention or when I feel self-conscious for some reason. You can see many lipsticks from essence here and I like the creamy texture they all give. Next two from essence are in ‘Cool nude’ and ‘Velvet matt’ and are from long lasting range of nude lipsticks. ‘42’ Rimmel lipstick from Kate Moss Nude Collection is somehow most precious, probably because of the packaging. Texture is creamy and glides on almost effortlessly. Most recent ones are ‘Rich Truffle’ from MeMeMe and ‘Au Naturale’ from Avon. The first is the one I reach for often lately. It is so easy to use because it is in a crayon packaging and it doesn’t require too much attention when applying. With this one, mishaps with application don’t happen.

As much as I love nude lipsticks that doesn’t mean I don’t keep a special place in my heart for other colours. Natural is what I wear regularly recently. Do you have a favourite of yours? Let me know. xx Maja

Colour Pop

Last time I’ve owned something as bright as that orange jumpsuit was in elementary school when bright colours just seemed like a dream to a girl. Since then I was all-black teenager and today I have subtle colours in my wardrobe. I am not someone to just settle down for a specific colour or trend and I love to experiment and evolve my style.

I went towards a whole different direction with this list and figured out what is missing the most. I tried to stick with spring/summer trends when I searched for colours I’d most likely wear. You can find Zara off the shoulder tops, both very summery and light material. The same can be said with orange skirt and jumpsuit. Colours here aren’t as diversified but are still very funky and happy. My favourite items are Asos pouch and H&M earrings. Both represent an amazing accessory when you don’t feel wearing too bold outfit.

Gingersnap Cookies

Once in a month I upload a random post in category of food, travel or just something completely else. This time I saved a yummy recipe that I cannot wait to share with you.

You’ll need:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon gingerbread spice
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
½ teaspoon salt
¾ cup shortening (or butter)
1 cup white sugar
1 egg
¼ cup honey

1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
2. Pour flour, gingerbread spice, baking soda, cinnamon and salt into a mixing bowl. Stir the mixture evenly.
3. In another bowl mix egg, sugar, honey and shortening until smooth.
4. Combine both mixtures together until soft dough remains. Take small amounts of dough, roll them into balls and place them on a baking sheet. Leave 2-3 cm (1 inch) free space between each cookie. 
5. Bake for 8-10 minutes until they’re slightly cracked.
